Overview
Research Assistant (KP13161) – Bath, BA2 7AY
About the role
We are seeking a Research Assistant to help contribute further development of the BathMat—an inflatable medical device designed to assist in the safe repositioning of ICU patients. This EPSRC-funded proof-of-concept research project will integrate a pressure-sensing system to the device, that can accurately identify and eliminate pressure hotspots, allowing automated repositioning of patients and real-time monitoring.Â
This will reduce the risk of pressure ulcers and improving patient comfort. This research has the potential to revolutionise ICU patient handling, improving safety, efficiency, and outcomes for some of the most critically ill individuals.
About you:Â
As a research assistant on this project you will:Â
- Support the optimisation of the BathMat prototype for scalable productionÂ
- Refine the pressure-sensing system, calibration and control algorithmsÂ
- Contribute to the durability testing and validation to meet ICU clinical standardsÂ
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, clinicians, and researchers.Â
We are looking for someone with:
- A background in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related fieldÂ
- Experience with sensor technologies, data analysis, or medical device developmentÂ
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detailÂ
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Further Information:
This role is offered on a part-time (29.2 hours per week), fixed term basis until the 30th September 2026.Â
