Job Purpose:
Take the lead on the delivery of a strategic programme of work to transition SPS from fossil fuel use to low or zero carbon equivalents in line with statutory Net Zero 2045 targets.
Identify, & oversee delivery of carbon reduction projects across Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned and controlled sources e.g. heating & core travel), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased electricity), and Scope 3 (value chain, upstream & downstream emissions).
Support the development of renewable and low carbon energy opportunities across the estate. This role will work closely with Climate Change Team Lead who will oversee a portfolio of work related to the Carbon Strategy.
Responsibilities:
Support development of SPS scope 1,2 and 3 carbon reduction strategies and plans.
Responsibility for the development of carbon emission reduction engineering projects identified in line with strategic SPS climate change commitments.
Lead a portfolio of carbon reduction projects through the development stages to reach approved business cases. Manage the delivery of agreed projects which sit beyond the scope of existing area teams.
Working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to ensure delivery of approved projects, including embedding via policy and training.
Provide advocacy and support at national and operational level, ensuring staff are trained, competent and supported to undertake climate change policy implementation.
Carry out critical analysis on design drawings, technical specifications, reporting and making recommendations in relation to identified projects including input into the design and operation of new prison buildings and major refurbishments.

Educated to degree level in a related field such as mechanical or electrical engineering, sustainability, or environmental management (essential)

Knowledge Skills Requirements
Experience of delivering transformation of complex services or infrastructure projects within a public sector or private organisation in a related field e.g., mechanical, or electrical engineering. (essential)
The role holder is expected to have technical skills in the field of low and zero direct emission heating technologies or in another relevant aspect of Scope 1, 2 and 3 decarbonisation. Able to demonstrate experience of linking technical knowledge with interpretation of strategy, regulations and legislation.(essential)
Experience of managing a portfolio of projects utilising project management techniques and processes to achieve successful outcomes. (essential)
