Estimator – Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear

  • This is a full-time role

  • The base location for this role is Greggs House, Newcastle Upon Tyne although there will be some travel required as part of the role to visit suppliers and shops.

Main Responsibilities

  • Review Principal Contractor individual project cost submissions for each shopfit/refit including validation of measurements, specifications, project duration, equipment inclusion and quantities, and nominated subcontractor/supplier quotes to ensure accuracy and correctness
  • Provide new shop estimates to the property team
  • Challenge the supplier/Principal contractor using evidence based on the above to drive down the costs and manage within budget
  • Maintain cost data for approved costs
  • Update Standard Schedule of Rates to mirror design format
  • Ensure certainty of supply, mitigation of risks, best quality and value
  • Driving value for money ensuring that key research, monitoring and evaluation is completed to ensure value is maintained
  • Managing and resolving day to day issues with suppliers in a timely and effective manner
  • Delivering Procurement Support for Key Strategic Company Projects
  • Support and contribute to our Responsible Sourcing processes and goals ensuring we work within the ISO20400 framework
  • Reviewing processes and standards to maintain customer focus and ensuring best practice is achieved
  • Developing and fostering good relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

Ideal Candidate

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Have strong negotiation experience and commercial acumen
  • Bring experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator on high‑value construction, shopfitting, or retail fit‑out projects
  • Are confident reviewing drawings,specificationsand take‑offs tovalidatecost accuracy
  • Are highly numerate with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Havea track recordof delivering value and continuous improvement
  • Are a self‑starter who can plan and prioritise effectively
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with a range of stakeholders
  • Are assertive,tenaciousand diplomatic when managing suppliers
  • Possess strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Canidentifykey cost drivers and align procurement activity accordingly
  • Work well as part of a team and enjoy contributing to shared goals
  • Have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (SAP/Ariba desirable)
  • Have experience with JCT contracts (beneficial, not essential)
