Job Description

 This opportunity is suitable for an experienced EMC Engineer who is looking for an exciting and varied role that includes the challenge of setting up and running of a new ISO17025 EMC test lab.
In the longer term there is potential for the successful candidate to be develop into the role of EMC Lab Manager. The role reports to the Group Product Safety Manager and includes the maintenance and development of EMC knowledge as lead on EMC matters for Renishaw’s products and management of one team member.


  • HND or above in a related science subject.

  • A strong background in EMC testing and be knowledgeable of current best practice in testing and reporting against EN/IEC/FCC/ICES/ANSI and other standards including those relating to at least one of the following: Machinery, Medical Devices, Household Appliances products and ITE.

  • Experience of Radio testing would be desirable but is not essential.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute significantly to the setting up, commissioning and calibration up of new EMC facility.

  • Manage testing including operation of test equipment, calibration in accordance with Regulatory Standards and requirements appropriate to the lab.

  • Maintain knowledge of technical requirements and provide technical leadership for the EMC lab and the company.

  • Conduct emissions and immunity testing in accordance with applicable requirements and manage others to do this.

  • Check technical records, perform data analysis, review, and prepare laboratory reports.

  • Create client deliverables in the form of test reports, and certification reports.

  • Manage routine operation, maintenance, calibration, qualification, and troubleshooting of EMC laboratory equipment and instruments.

  • Report on operation of our EMC development testing Lab.

  • Lead & manage the development, writing, review, and validation of test methods, laboratory procedures, and other department-level operating and quality documents.

  • Take part in investigation of, response to, and follow-up of customer inquiries and complaints.

  • Control test samples, logging, pre-treatment, preparation, testing, and other tasks.

  • Conduct multiple projects within tight deadlines.

  • Collaborate and interface with clients taking and acting on feedback.

  • Participate in QMR and ensure that the EMC lab is run at ISO17025 levels of operation.

  • Train and mentor others.

  • Implement globally harmonized test methods and maintain awareness of best practice.

  • Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

  • Represent Renishaw at EMCTLA and other for fora.

  • Control and manage the calendar and workload of the EMC Lab and provide meaningful metrics reflecting use of laboratories, work done, projections of future resourcing needs.

  • Develop and deliver training packages to design and development teams to help them test and design for EMC.
