Overview
As a qualified Social Work Practitioner, you will supervise, teach and assess Social Work Degree Apprentices and other students on practice learning placements, improving standards in social work education. As the Practice Educator you will make a difference by focussing on leading and guiding our adult workforce to meet national and local professional and practice standards.
What will you be doing?
- Working with the Social Work Practice Education Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring Social Work degree apprentices have the best experience at South Gloucestershire Council as they complete their training and become qualified social workers. To achieve this you will be involved in the coordination, delivery and quality assurance of the Practice Education requirements of the Social Work degree apprenticeship qualification (including placements and supporting the delivery of the Managing Practice Learning course for new mentors).
- You will be supporting Social Work degree apprentices to demonstrate that they meet the Professional Capability Framework and Apprenticeship Standards through supervision, direct observations and support with portfolios and academic work.
- As Practice Educator you will work closely with the teams of the apprentices, and in particular the supervisor and Team Manager, to ensure that case responsibilities are clearly defined and understood and that line management accountabilities are followed.
- You will be involved with extensive coordination and liaison with stakeholders both within the council and external, such as Higher Education Institutions on behalf of apprentices. You will be responsible for ensuring individual action plans with learners are set, monitored and completed, to ensure they meet quality and value for money standards and achieve required outcomes.
- It will be your responsibility to facilitate and assess the learning and development of others, for example supporting the delivery of the Managing Practice Learning course, completing PEPS observations and reading PEPS portfolios.
- You will also support undergraduate Social Work degree apprentices or students to improve the apprentice experience, which will include placements for our partner and other universities social work degree apprenticeship programmes and for Sponsored staff undertaking the social work degree at the Open University and apprentices undertaking the Level 6 Social Work Apprenticeship Degree.
