Gate Person/General Operative
The Role
The Gate Person/General Operative work on construction sites and roadways to ensure the safe movement of vehicles and plant equipment. They are responsible for maintaining security on-site, facilitating the movement of vehicles, and preserving public traffic routes.
You will be required to work on-site when not based at the Gate in the role of General Operative.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining site security: as a traffic marshal, you are responsible for the security and safety of visitors and workers on the site
- Controlling vehicle movements
- Guide deliveries and visitors around the site without causing damage or accidents
- Ability to use communication tools and hand signals to communicate with drivers
- Ability to use a two-way radio to advise the site team of the arrival of deliveries
- Create clear routes for entrance and exit to ease movement in and out of the site, you also ensure the vehicles exiting the site don’t cause traffic disruption on the public highway
- Ensuring pedestrian safety, the vehicle pathways shouldn’t pose a danger to pedestrians on the road
- Guide pedestrians out of harm’s way when heavy vehicles are turning
- As and when not based on the Gate, you will carry out General Operative DutiesÂ
- Ensure you attend all site briefings, forums, and toolbox talks

About you
Essential
- Ability to work alone and as part of the larger site team
- Have good organisational skills and be prepared to assert themselves to get the job done
- CSCS card
Desirable
- Previous industry experience
- CPCS Traffic Marshall
