Everyone’s different and has their own perspective so we’re building a diverse team that mirrors the communities we serve. Through this we’re determined to be one of Wales’ leading inclusive employers. We’re creating an inclusive transport network that everyone in Wales can be proud of.

Who we are

At Transport for Wales, we’re on a mission to transform transport in Wales and make it fit for the future, whether that’s rail, bus, walking or cycling. We want to inspire a nation to change the way it travels, so that we all travel more sustainably and help to combat the climate emergency we’re all facing.

We’re an open and inclusive place to work, where everyone is welcome and our people are supported to reach their full potential. We want to create an environment where our people can grow and succeed. This is key to enabling us to deliver on the promises we’ve made to the people of Wales to build a sustainable transport network that meets their needs.

Role responsibilities

This role is all about keeping our financial control environment robust and effective. Leading on control assessments and our annual controls review you will also help shape how we embed controls into new processes and champion best practice across the business.

  • Develop an internal control annual effectiveness testing and attestation process over financial and non-financial reporting which will include any control remediation actions for process owners to complete ahead of the financial yearend in readiness for the executive leadership team (ELT) to complete the annual self-assessment/internal control questionnaire.
  • Challenge existing process documentation and controls by evaluating deficiencies and facilitating rectification with process owners to ensure processes and controls are upgraded to meet UK SOX requirements.
  • Identify and record ineffective controls or controls requiring improvement by performing independent testing of the design and operating effectiveness with the process owners and work collaboratively with the business to agree remediation plans and improvements required and appropriate timeframes to implement and retest to ensure compliance to the regulation.
  • Track completion of control deficiency resolution plans, by using governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) tools to ensuring that deficiencies are resolved in a timely manner and manage progress to completion.

Who we’re looking for

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA) or Internal Auditor.
  • Practical knowledge and experience of internal control frameworks such as SOX and COSO. In particular you should have knowledge of design and operating effectiveness, control quality, testing, high-quality evidencing standards and be able to apply the control principles.
  • Experience implementing SOX controls and a SOX compliance programme or equivalent within a large organisation where you are able to collaborate and influence to bring together disparate functions under one methodology.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
