Directorate
The Strategic Planning & Insight directorate plays a pivotal role in driving data-informed decisions across De Montfort University. By delivering high-quality analysis, sector benchmarking, and strategic foresight, the directorate ensures that the university remains competitive, agile, and aligned with its core institutional goals.
Your Role
Be at the heart of driving data-led decisions that shape our university’s future. We are seeking an analytical and collaborative Market Insight Analyst to join our Strategic Planning & Insight directorate. In this role, you will provide critical qualitative and quantitative insights that directly influence decision-making and support the successful delivery of our student recruitment strategy both locally and internationally.
Reporting directly to the Market Research and Data Manager, you will be part of a forward-thinking team dedicated to academic portfolio profiling, competitor benchmarking, and understanding student choices.
Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is a data-literate researcher who thrives on transforming complex numbers into compelling strategic stories. You should possess:
- Essential Skills & Experience: A degree incorporating market research methodologies (or equivalent professional qualification) alongside hands-on experience in a market research environment managing both qualitative and quantitative approaches. You must have strong data analytics proficiency (including SPSS, Excel, or PowerQuery), experience with SNAP or similar survey software, and excellent written and visual report-writing skills. A full UK driving license or the ability to travel to remote locations for focus groups.
- Desirable Skills & Experience: Prior experience working within a Market Research role, agency experience would be advantageous. A good understanding of the Higher Education landscape and its unique challenges would be highly valuable in this role.
- Personal Qualities: A self-motivated team player with exceptional time management, communication, and project planning skills, who is comfortable managing their own workload and working under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Collate, interpret, and translate complex primary and secondary data into actionable trends that support DMU’s strategic goals.
- Facilitate new course developments by collaborating with academic and professional services colleagues on demand analysis and market testing.
- Support the statistical analysis and data visualisation of major internal and external data products, including UCAS, HESA, NSS, and PTES.
- Conduct comprehensive sector benchmarking and competitor analysis to map out market segmentation, fees, and scholarship positioning.
- Coordinate and execute qualitative research initiatives, including confidently designing and running student focus groups.
