Community Pharmacy Research Fellowship – Redwood Building, Cardiff

Community Pharmacy Research Fellowship
School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cardiff University

We are seeking to engage motivated, GPhC registered Community Pharmacists to work within the Cardiff School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences as a Community Research Fellow. This exciting opportunity is designed to build capacity and leadership in commercial and academic research delivered in primary care and community settings, directly addressing a key Welsh Government priority to increase community pharmacy research and related pace of delivery across Wales.

The successful applicant will be a practising community pharmacist in Wales with a clear understanding of the structure of primary care across NHS Wales.  A Pharmacy degree (MPharm or equivalent) is essential, as is full registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).  The post holder must have an interest in research delivery or research leadership and be motivated to support commercial and academic research in community pharmacy settings.

Working within a multidisciplinary academic and practice environment, you will:

– Support the engagement of community pharmacies in commercial and academic research
– Support individual pharmacy premises to develop scalable models for research delivery in the community
– Work closely with academic partners and research networks to reduce barriers to commercial and academic research participation
– Build personal expertise in research methodology, regulatory processes, and research delivery
– Contribute to outputs aligned with national priorities, including reports, publications, and funding development
– Partake in a programme of professional development activities that build your skills and expertise in research delivery
– Build strong academic partnerships by collaborating with and contributing to teaching and research across the School, the wider University and the Wales Primary Care and Community Research Delivery Network

This post offers protected time, structured mentorship, tailored development opportunities, and a generous professional development budget for community pharmacists interested in research delivery and maximising the potential in Wales to be a leader in community pharmacy research.

Why join us?

– Be part of a nationally strategic programme supporting Wales’ ambition to become a leading location for commercial and academic clinical research in community pharmacy

– Work within a highly supportive School, with a strong track record of primary care research
– Gain hands-on experience at the interface of academia, primary care, secondary care and industry
– Develop skills that support future roles in research leadership, academia, or research-active practice

About you

We are keen to hear from community pharmacists who:

– Hold full GPhC registration and are currently practising in Wales
– Have an interest in research delivery or research leadership
– Are motivated to support commercial and academic research in community pharmacy settings
– Value collaboration across academic, clinical, and industry partners
– Previous research experience is welcome but not essential; enthusiasm, curiosity, and commitment to improving research access in the community are key.

This post is part time (28 hours per week equivalent to four days a week) and is fixed term for 24 months.

This post will be based between Redwood Building, Cardiff University and out in the community

The Fellowship is anticipated to be administered as a secondment arrangement and as such, permission will need to be sought from your current employer before applying.
