Salary up to £39,000 depending on experience

Renishaw is recruiting an Applications Engineer to join our team specialising in advanced machine tool applications/solutions.  The primary function of the team is supporting the development of application solutions including feasibility studies, product enhancement, in-house testing and training.

You will provide machine tool probe installations and application support including training, for our customers on both hardware and software products to Renishaw’s subsidiaries, OEMs and end-users in a variety of markets nationwide.

Renishaw’s Machine Tool Products leads the market in delivering innovative, high accuracy measurement solutions to CNC machining processes globally. Our world-leading product delivers high-density data sets for complex parts, which in turn provides our customers with new levels of on-machine inspection capabilities particularly in the manufacture of high value components.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of specific customer projects which involve performing advanced measurement tasks using CNC machines to provide data-rich results at organisations in a variety of industries.

  • Work closely with the software development team to provide feedback on customer requirements to ensure that the product features and design are suitable for the customer and their needs.

  • Contribute to Renishaw’s knowledge of on-machine process control applications through involvement in an ongoing test program.

 

Key requirements

  • An appreciation of CNC machines and their application, particularly in 5-axis environments using advanced control functions.

  • A demonstrable understanding of Microsoft Office products, particularly use of Excel to analyse and present large data sets.

  • Perform health and safety and risk assessments when entering customer sites

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects

  • Support machine-tool demonstrations at Machine Tools Products (MTP) exhibitions

  • Provide process integration

  • Understanding of engineering drawings and measurement principles including GD&T.

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

  • Sound and competent electrical and mechanical expertise

  • Experience in machine tool ISO programming

  • Good problem solving techniques

  • Extensive MTP product knowledge

 

Desirable requirements

  • Experience of CNC programming with a general knowledge of ISO programming techniques with control systems from Fanuc, Siemens, Mazak or Okuma.

  • Previous advanced CAD-CAM software experience or an understanding of the manufacture of complex forms.

  • Proven customer facing experience in a technical role.

  • Experience of writing technical documentation and guidance.

  • Manufacturing industry or CMM application experience desirable.

  • Ability to present and convey information to individuals and/or groups of people.

  • Machine tool or periphery equipment installation experience.

  • Hold an HND/diploma or degree in an engineering discipline or similar level of qualification with applications engineering experience.

Person specification

As the successful applicant, you will be able to work independently but also in a team environment. You will be comfortable with handling large data sets and have the ability to explain complicated concepts in a precise and logical manner.

Because of the complex nature of the applications, you must be able to forge close working relationships with experts from a wide diversity of backgrounds, to both learn and to share their own experiences.

The work itself will be very varied and will range from development tasks at our headquarters, to specific customer requirements with fixed timetables
