About us:

 
The Centre for Oral, Clinical and Translational Sciences (COCTS) brings together discovery and clinical scientists combining efforts aimed at improving oral and dental health through research and innovation leading to translation. The Centre is in an exciting phase of renewal with significant investment into state-of-the-art interdisciplinary science laboratories and support of translational and clinical research. Members of the centre have international reputations in mineralised tissue research, biomaterials, tissue engineering, device and diagnostic technology development, computer science and AI, and clinical research. Strong educational support is provided to both undergraduate and postgraduate students and we seek to appoint an academic that will strengthen and diversify the capacity of the centre in both research and education.  
 

About the role:

We are aiming to recruit outstanding clinical academics who will help shape the future of the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at King’s College London.
 
Roles are advertised at all seniority levels with the option of applying for either an Education and Research (E&R) pathway or Academic Education Pathway (AEP) 
For both pathways the role offers the opportunity to provide academic and clinical leadership in Restorative Dentistry, shaping the future of undergraduate and postgraduate dental education at King’s. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supporting the development of innovative curricula.
 
E&R post-holders will champion internationally leading research in Dentistry and Oral Health Sciences that advances the strategic priorities of the Faculty, the College, and King’s Health Partners (KHP), securing funding, generating internationally leading outputs, and developing the next generation of clinical academic leaders.
 
AEP post-holders will contribute to enhancing educational quality and innovation with a pathway that provides appropriate recognition, reward and opportunities for advancement. They will play a key role in the leadership of Integrated Clinical Care services at Guy’s Hospital.
For all roles there will be an expectation to deliver outstanding patient care in line with professional standards while fostering strong partnerships with the NHS and wider stakeholders to translate research and teaching into tangible clinical impact. As a mentor and role model, the post holder will support the professional and academic development of students, trainees, and colleagues, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and ambitious community. They will also contribute to the wider academic life of the Faculty through leadership, governance, and strategic engagement appropriate to their level, ensuring that Restorative Dentistry at King’s maintains its international standing for excellence in education, research, and clinical practice. 
 

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1.       Full GDC registration with licence to practice and on the Specialist Register for Restorative Dentistry or eligible for registration within 6 months. 
2.       Specialty training in Restorative Dentistry 
3.       PhD qualified in relevant subject area 
4.       Capacity to build & maintain relationships at all levels of organisations & the skills to work effectively. 
5.       Ability to deliver high quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels within their specialist area* 
6.       Ability to successfully supervise undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level students to completion* 
7.       Evidence of providing clinical leadership and contributing to the strategic ambitions/directions of a clinical service* 
8.       Established record in attracting research grants and publishing internationally excellent peer reviewed outputs in Restorative Dentistry and Oral Health Sciences* 
9.       Track record of publications in oral and dental research and education with outputs of a high 3* or 4* standard suitable for return in the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) *

Desirable criteria
1.       Fellow (or higher) of the Higher Education Academy (or equivalent) or eligible for membership * 
2.       Track record of nationally and internationally recognized achievements in oral and dental research and undergraduate and postgraduate education * 
3.       Leadership experience in dental educational programmes * 
4.       Evidence of prominent role in national or international scientific bodies in the field of Restorative Dentistry or one of the monospecialities * 
5.       Evidence of collaborative research at national or international level *
