High Risk and Rescue Operative
The Role
High-risk and Rescue Operatives provide safety cover for teams in hazardous environments like tunnels, sewers, and deep excavations. Key duties include managing confined space entry, conducting risk assessments, setting up rescue systems (tripods/winches), and performing emergency breathing apparatus (BA) rescues.
Key Responsibilities
Rescue Standby & Emergency Response
- Act as topman or rescue team member, monitoring entrants, and executing rescue/recovery operations using Breathing Apparatus (BA) or escape apparatus.
Confined Space/High-Risk Entry
- Work in areas with, or potentially containing, toxic gases, low oxygen, or risks of submersion/engulfment.
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct site risk assessments, check permits to work, and ensure equipment is compliant with Health & Safety legislation.
Equipment Management
- Inspect, maintain, and safely use breathing apparatus, gas monitors, and lifting equipment.
Team Leadership
- Oversee safety checks for entry teams and provide emergency direction under pressure.
General
- Labouring work along with slinger duties, ideally with shaft and tunnelling
About you
- City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces (6160-03)
- City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Working as a Member of a Rescue Team in Confined Spaces (6160-08)
- City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Control Entry and Arrangements for Confined Spaces (6160-04)
- Experience in general civil works, including earthworks, drainage, ducting, and concreting
