About the role
West Northamptonshire Council’s Digital, Technology and Innovation (DTI) service is on a mission to revolutionise how local authority IT is delivered — and we want you to be part of it.
As a newly formed authority since April 2021, we’re proud of our bold, ambitious plans. We aim to be the most innovative digital council in the country, and we’re building a high-performing team to make that vision a reality.
We’re looking for a Desktop Support Engineer who is passionate about technology, driven to provide excellent customer service, and ready to help shape the future of IT across our organisation.
What will you be doing?
As a Desktop Support Engineer, you’ll be a key part of our frontline IT support team, ensuring that staff across the council have the tools and assistance they need to work efficiently and effectively. Your work will directly support vital public services and make a real difference in people’s lives.
Providing 2nd line support to users across a wide range of devices and applications
Troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues
Supporting staff in person, remotely, and via our service desk platform
Travelling between council sites and supporting staff across our partner organisations and locations
Preparing and deploying new laptops and equipment
Working with the wider DTI team to deliver a consistent, high-quality IT service
Supporting our ongoing digital transformation projects and rollout of new technologies
About you
We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to get stuck in.
- You’re great with people — friendly, patient, and able to explain IT clearly
- You’re hands-on with desktop/laptop builds, troubleshooting, and support
- You have experience working in an IT support environment (preferably public sector or large organisation but not essential)
- You’re keen to learn, grow and be part of something exciting
- Relevant IT qualifications (or equivalent experience) would be an advantage
