Head of Business Development – Manchester
Job Description

Following the success of our AMP8 bid campaign our water business is in a period of significant growth, operating a diverse portfolio of long-term strategic delivery programmes, major projects and wider water services for our customers across the UK.

As we plan for further growth in AMP8, AMP9 and beyond, we are seeking two senior client-facing leaders to join the strategic development team who want to be at the forefront of securing the next generation of major infrastructure programmes for the business. The roles are:

  • Head of Business Development – Major Projects
  • Head of Business Development – Capital Programmes

These newly created senior positions will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and success of our organisation. Reporting directly to the Director of Business Development, the successful candidates will be responsible for overseeing development of our growing water sector portfolio. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in business development and the ability to work collaboratively with external customers, key partners, internal peers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement business development strategies for the assigned market and portfolios
  • Develop and maintain growth plans for strategic opportunities to meet sector ambitions
  • Build and maintain strong trusting relationships with customers, strategic partners and other industry stakeholders
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to inform strategic decisions
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to drive financial growth and positioning
  • Work closely with internal functions to develop strong and coherent propositions and offers for clients
  • Prepare and present regular reports on business development activities and performance
  • Maintain full compliance with internal governance and business planning activities

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a senior business development role within the infrastructure/engineering industry
  • Strong networker who actively builds rapport, listens to client needs
  • Excellent communicator able to present and negotiate effectively
  • Highly experienced in leading and managing multi-disciplined, cross-functional teams
  • Ability to think strategically and execute effectively
  • Creative & able to influence/develop new concepts and propositions
  • Demonstrable and proven organisational skills and project management capability
  • Adept analytical skills to enable effective development of understanding and insight of complex data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software (Microsoft Dynamics)

Desirable

  • Experience and understanding of the water or utilities industry
  • Experience of leading and/or managing successful bid campaigns in an infrastructure environment
  • Technical or commercial background in intensive major projects or capital delivery environments

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree level qualification
