The Home and Community Safety team is a small team within Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue.  This team delivers Safe and Well visits to the most vulnerable people within our community to reduce the risk of fire in the home.  The is a team who supports the rest of the service in delivering fire safety education across Oxfordshire.

 

About the Role

As a Home & Community Safety Advisor, you will be part of a small team delivering interventions such as safe and well visits to reduce risks in the home, fitting smoke alarm and other equipment within homes. Working with partner agencies on joint visits and making referrals and exchanging information with these partner agencies to improve the safety and wellbeing of residents.

You will travel to different locations daily, working in people’s homes by appointment, so a full driving licence is a requirement.  You will ensure adherence to County policies and procedures.  

You will also provide fire prevention education and advice to the community in relation to fire and other emergencies by delivering educational programs and talks in schools, clubs and to community groups and other professionals.  As part of this educational program, you will also work with young people who have a fascination with fire as a fire setter intervention counsellor (training provided).

Opportunities to support community-based events and prevention projects.

  • Hours:  Part Time role 18.5 hours per week – example of possible working patterns below, Week 1 (2 days per week) Week 2 (3 days per week)
  • Option A – Week 1 Monday, Friday, Week 2 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
  • Option B – Week 1 Monday, Tuesday, Week 2 Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
  • Location: Based in Kidlington, with work required throughout Oxfordshire

 

About you

To be successful in this role you need to have excellent communication skills both verbal and written, enjoy working with people and have a proactive approach to fire prevention and reducing risks.   You should have the ability and be able to display that you can manage your own workloads and prioritise task.

For this role you require a full driving licence and be educated to GCSE level in Maths and English A-C or equivalent.  Your will need good IT skills and be competent with Microsoft Office applications.

Within in this role you will need the ability to work unsupervised and be aware of your own responsibilities with regards to Health and Safety.  You need to have a positive and flexible approach to all duties asked of you.
