A rare and exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Lead Community Nurse has arisen within our Children and Young Peoples Services with Learning Disabilities in NE Hampshire. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated nurse to join our dynamic multi- disciplinary service.

The successful applicant will be joining an innovative team of specialities providing high quality heath interventions as part of the wider forward thinking, diverse multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively with nurses and other professional clinicians as well as multiple agencies.

You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to apply your nursing skills to a wide range of situations, working with a range of children with a learning disability living within the community. You will be responsible for managing a caseload across the geographical area of NE Hampshire working closely with other agencies as well as members of the multi-disciplinary team.

There is an emphasis on the importance of clinical supervision and continued professional development, which we regard as a vital part of the delivery of care. You will be part of an innovative and dynamic team which utilises an evidence-based perspective. Well support and encourage you to develop specialist experience and expertise as appropriate.

 

Main duties of the job

This role will be responsible for leading the nursing provision within a service, irrespective of size, by ensuring relevant clinical supervision is provided to staff, standards of service provision are set, monitored and maintained and that people, who use the service, and their carers, are involved in the service in the way they wish to be.  This role will also deliver high quality nursing assessments, interventions, and consultation within generic and specialised services. 

 

The job will be within our Children and Young Peoples Division and will be within the Community Children and Young Peoples Learning Disability Service (CLD).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·  To plan and deliver a highly specialist nursing service (in leadership or advanced nurse role) and to oversee its clinical governance.

·  To be responsible for the professional leadership and continued development of a team service area.

·  To lead in the supervision and Individual Performance Review/Appraisal of all nursing staff.

·  To ensure that the healthcare needs of people with learning disabilities are communicated to service commissioners and providers. To positively contribute to divisional developments in relation to nursing practice. To advocate and represent the service.

·  To be responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.

·  Contribute to appropriate staff recruitment and contribute to the wider strategic plans regarding nurse recruitment.

·  To ensure that the needs of people with protected characteristics are addressed within local services and future developments.

·  To oversee KPI’s being met for the service.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RNLD Nursing Degree/Diploma
  • Nursing Mentorship supervisor/Assessor
Desirable criteria
  • Additional academic clinical qualification relevant to area of practice
  • Additional leadership/management study

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 years minimum relevant post qualification clinical experience, 2 of which within LD community team
  • Experience of leading clinical practice/service development/project work
  • Experience of supervising junior staff
  • Interest/Skill in a specialist area
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with ASD/ADHD assessments within LD
  • Experience of LD within Children and YP community services.
  • Experience of developing/delivering specialist teaching/training packages
