About the role
Imperial College London Library Services are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated Library Assistant to join our User Services team, supporting the provision of efficient and effective library services to meet the learning, teaching and research needs of our users.
The role focuses on front of house user support, and a high standard of customer care is required. The postholder will also be assigned administrative tasks to support the front of house activities.
What you would be doing
- Welcoming library users and dealing with all enquiries received via phone, email or in person at the Information hub.
- Assisting library users to locate print and online publications and explain how to use e-journals and databases.
- Day-to-day operation of the team’s ‘ASK the Library’ enquiry service, the online library chat module LibChat and issue desk mailbox, answering standard and non-standard enquiries.
- Validating user records on the library management system, ensuring users provide the correct documentation to access the library.
What we are looking for
You will need at least five 9-4 (A*-C) GCSEs, or equivalent qualifications. You should have previous experience of providing a frontline library service and a good knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. We are looking for applicants with good communication, organisation and time management skills.
The post is a full-time, permanent post. The normal working day is 09.30-17.30 but you will normally work at least one early shift (8.30 – 16.30) per week and one late shift (11.00 – 19.00) per month. You will also work one weekend day, Saturday or Sunday 10.00 – 18.00 on a termly rota, usually once every 4 weeks.
