About the team
Our Long Marston Operations Team provide onsite logistical solutions and support services, tailored to our internal and external customers’ needs. The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, professionally trained depot team.
About the role
A great opportunity for an exceptional Rolling Stock Projects Engineer, to join the Porterbrook team.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist the Rolling Stock Projects Manager to ensure all rolling stock projects undertaken at Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre are delivered safely and in accordance with the framework specified within the Porterbrook Standard for Project Management (ENG/T2/16) and relevant site procedures
- Assist the Rolling Stock Projects Manager with the management of rolling stock projects led by the LMRIC Operations team within Porterbrook’s Project Management Tool(s), including: Management of RAID logs to ensure that identified risks (incl. safety, financial, quality) are quantified; and work with applicable stakeholders to ensure suitable & sufficient controls are in place to manage risks to a level as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP)
- Maintain a suite of key performance indicators (KPIs) to proactively monitor project delivery performance and service levels
- Assist the Rolling Stock Projects Manager with the close out of actions arising from audits carried out by the Porterbrook audit team relating to rolling stock projects led by the LMRIC Operations team
- Day-to-day planning and management of rolling stock projects led by the LM Operations team to ensure safe delivery within the maintenance facilities and train storage yards at LMRIC – in accordance with contractual requirements and site HSQE protocols
- Undertake regular inspections and work with the HSQE Manager and Facilities Manager to ensure site maintenance facilities remain in a safe and fully operable condition to enable delivery of rolling stock projects
- Review Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS) for rolling stock activities undertaken at LMRIC to ensure the scope of works can be safely delivered and is compatible with the assigned facility/ location – and other works (current/ future) taking place in the facility/ location
- Issue and close permits to work (PtW) for rolling stock activities undertaken at LMRIC
- Carry out in process checks to ensure adherence to agreed RAMS, PtW conditions, relevant site procedures, protocols & housekeeping standards
- Work with the Operations Planner to ensure train movements are planned and resourced to facilitate the successful delivery of rolling stock projects undertaken at LMRIC
- Assist the Rolling Stock Projects Manager with forming and implementing strategies to enable continued development of technical rolling stock maintenance capability at LMRIC
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate access to, and working on rolling stock at LMRIC
- Produce reports as required by the Rolling Stock Projects Manager
- Attend meetings as required by the Rolling Stock Projects Manager
- Ensure arrangements are in place for customers to complete relevant site inductions prior to commencing work
- Carry out any other tasks as reasonably requested by the Rolling Stock Projects Manager
About you
Skills / Experience
What you’ll need to have:
- Degree or HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline
- Formal Project Management qualification
- Good knowledge of project/contract management in an operational environment
- Experience in undertaking and/or managing rolling stock maintenance (Level 1-4 and/ or L5) and/or modification programmes
- Good knowledge of railway depot management
- Experience in managing third-party suppliers & stakeholders
- Good knowledge of project management tools
- Ability to understand and comment upon engineering instructions and drawings
- Knowledge and understanding of vehicle maintenance and overhaul requirements
It would be great if you also had:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to plan and deliver activities to deliver business objectives
- Ability to exercise sound judgement with good sense of controls
- Computer literacy
- Project planning skills
- Financial and budgeting awareness
