The Opportunity

The Senior Manager of Procurement will have responsibility for supporting the Retail and Zero Carbon Homes (ZCH) areas within the Customers and Corporate Supply Chain activities. The Retail and ZCH team form part of the Customers and Corporate Supply Chain team, which reports into Customers Finance.  It’s a key role, able to influence the long-term and short-term activities of the Supply Chain team.

What you’ll be doing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive strategic procurement activities, negotiating contracts and renewals, and supporting market analysis to optimise supplier options.
  • Build strong partnerships with Retail and Business Development Directors, P&L owners (up to SLT), and cross-functional teams to influence decision-making and align procurement with business objectives.
  • Providing leadership, ensuring the direct reports have a customer service mindset and ensuring the team works in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner.
  • Negotiating with suppliers on both new contracts and renewals and, where commercially justifiable, undertaking market scanning to support the provision of options to P&L owners.
  • Ensure robust supplier relationship management, contract compliance, risk mitigation, and sustainable sourcing aligned with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Manage disputes, contract variations, and leverage group procurement synergies to deliver continuous improvement and protect company interests.
  • Where relevant, identifying and leveraging group procurement synergies.
  • Ensuring risks are understood and mitigated to an agreed level through effective contracts, processes and professional relationships with our key suppliers and contractors. Ensuring third party suppliers and contractors both understand and work in alignment with our health, safety, environment and quality practices and standards.

  • Have deep understanding of contract and commercial law, skilled in interpreting terms, managing risks, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements – all while supporting strategic business goals.
  • Demonstrate proven success in managing bid processes, including supplier sourcing, documentation, evaluation, and awarding multidiscipline contracts.
  • Excel in negotiating complex contracts across multiple sectors, leveraging strong commercial acumen to drive strategic negotiations to successful outcomes.
  • Communicate with clarity and impact – both written and verbal – translating complex information into persuasive messages tailored for diverse audiences.
  • Showcase excellent presentation, influencing, and facilitation skills that enable effective stakeholder engagement and support informed decision-making.
  • Have hands-on experience in procurement or supply chain teams with a solid grasp of end-to-end sourcing and supplier management.
  • Think forward with a passion for leveraging automation, robotics, and AI to boost efficiency, reduce risk, and improve results.
