Senior Systems and Performance Manager –
Job Description

Work Winning is Costain’s high-performance, professional centre for bids and proposals across the business, and leads on securing the next five years work on a rolling basis. We lead and manage the bids that deliver most of the company’s revenue and profit. Work Winning is split into three areas: Natural Resources; Transportation; and Central. The Central team is the shared, creative and knowledge management team. It services the two divisional teams, each comprising of bid managers and estimators. The Natural Resources Work Winning team works across three sectors: Water; Energy; and Defence & Nuclear Energy

The Senior Systems and Performance Manager’s purpose is to be responsible for managing work winning transformation and continuous improvement initiatives and for providing the management information and controls needed to run and report on work winning performance. This role leads on major change initiatives to the work winning process, tools and organisation within the team and across Costain. The role links to business development and key account management, ensuring that CRM use evolves and that case studies and evidence are harvested, recorded and made useful for securing future work. The role monitors and coaches adherence to and evolution of work winning and associated processes, collecting, promoting and communicating best practice. The role leads on management information, owning the ‘check’ stage of the overall work winning plan-do-check-act cycle on behalf of the divisional work winning director(s).

The role will work initially within the NR WW team, but will work across both divisions on successful conclusion of initiatives underway and sponsored by NR WWD.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Lead transformation and improvement activities to drive improved performance and efficiency across the work winning process
• Lead digital implementation and improvement including reporting and insights
• Lead systems management, implementation, & improvement
• Develop and report on work winning performance
• Manage work winning operational controls: bid budgets, bid and resource priorities
• Own and evolve the customer satisfaction process, systems and tools

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential:

• Project management
• Change management
• Requirements capture and process mapping
• Digital mindset and experience
• Strong communication and numeracy
• Self-driven activity setting and proactive oversight and problem solving

Desirable:

• Business analysis
• Reporting software proficiency (PowerBI/MS Fabric)
• Experience in lean/six sigma, process review & efficiencies
• Construction/Project Management operational background or understanding/ experience

  • Degree level qualified or equivalent in a construction/project management related discipline
