The M&S Identity team is looking for a Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. You will provide technical expertise, ship thoughtful solutions, and operate with excellence. Creative, curious, and fearless, you will be an integral part of our empowered, self-managing domain engineering team, pushing the boundaries of our Identity Platform.
In this role, you’ll join a cross functional squad focused on the Sparks loyalty programme, creating and improving customer facing web journeys using modern frontend technologies. You’ll work predominantly on the UI layer while collaborating closely with backend engineers, product teams and other specialists, giving you strong exposure across our tech stack and domain.

What You’ll Do
- Building and maintaining high quality, customer facing web experiences for our Sparks loyalty products using React, Next.js, JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Collaborating closely with product, design, native apps, and backend teams to deliver features end-to-end across the Sparks customer journey.
- Integrating frontend experiences with GraphQL APIs to ensure reliable, efficient and scalable interactions with backend services.
- Using data, experimentation and insight to inform decisions, improve performance and optimise the user experience.
- Writing clean, testable, maintainable code and contributing actively to code reviews, engineering standards and best practices.
- Continuously improving our web applications, tooling, and delivery processes, and proposing ideas that enhance team effectiveness.
- Troubleshooting and resolving production issues with a customer first mindset.
- Participating in agile ceremonies including planning, refinement, and retrospectives, contributing to a growth oriented, collaborative team culture.
Who You Are
- Strong experience building user facing web applications using modern JavaScript/TypeScript and React (including frameworks like Next.js).
- Confidence working with APIs, ideally with exposure to GraphQL, or a strong willingness to learn.
- Solid problem solving skills and ability to break down complex requirements into simple, robust frontend solutions.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a cross functional squad environment.
- A proactive, growth oriented mindset; comfortable learning new technologies and working in a fast paced, evolving environment.
- A team first, inclusive approach that contributes positively to squad culture and shared success.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working in largescale customer facing digital environments.
- Knowledge of experimentation, A/B testing or performance optimisation techniques.
- Familiarity with cloud engineering practices.
- Experience contributing to UI or design systems.
