Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for either a Band 5 or Band 6 Speech & Language Therapist to join our friendly community team. We provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic interventions for adults in the community who have communication and/or swallowing difficulties, resulting from acquired or progressive neurological conditions such as stroke, motor neurone disease, Parkinsons and dementia as well as frailty. We work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team in the North-West Surrey Neighbourhood Boroughs.

We are a team committed to delivering high quality patient care, including a community FEES service. Our clinicians have wide ranging expertise, and peer support is always readily accessible. The post holder will have access to regular clinical supervision and CPD opportunities in line with their agreed personal development plan.

This post would suit a Band 6 therapist or an experienced Band 5 therapist who is keen to work towards developing to Band 6. Completed dysphagia training is preferred but therapists who can evidence significant progress towards completing their dysphagia competencies will also be considered. The successful candidate will join a team of highly skilled Speech & Language Therapists, delivering services in community inpatient, outpatient, and domiciliary settings. As this is a community service that covers a large geographical area, being a car driver is essential.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic interventions for patients on the rehabilitation ward at Woking Hospital, in outpatient clinics, and patients in the community who have communication and/or swallowing difficulties, resulting from a variety of acquired or progressive neurological conditions or frailty.

To provide advice, support and education for patients and their families/carers, and offertraining to students, and other Health Care Professionals.

To be able to work independently and as part of a team, and to participate in innovativeprojects and service development to benefit patients and colleagues.
