Transport Operations Manager – Kettering, Northamptonshire

  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of transport managers, supervisors and drivers.
  • Deliver operational and strategic transport objectives in line with business plans and budgets.
  • Take responsibility for transport planning, resource deployment and operational problem solving.
  • Ensure fleet maintenance, servicing and transport compliance requirements are fully met.
  • Manage 24/7 transport operations, including rota planning and resource optimisation.
  • Drive a culture of excellence, continuous improvement and colleague engagement.
  • Develop, monitor and improve key performance indicators to support operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all transport legislation, Health & Safety, food safety and company policies.
  • Recruit, coach, develop and support colleagues to achieve their full potential.
  • Lead performance management, PDRs, succession planning and talent development activities.
  • Manage investigations, disciplinary and grievance processes where required.
  • Promote a strong safety and food safety culture across the operation.
  • Work cross-functionally with operational, national transport team and support teams to achieve commercial objectives
  • Lead and deliver continuous improvement initiatives and operational projects.

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced operational leader with a proven track record in transport, logistics or distribution management.

You’ll have:

  • Experience leading large-scale transport, logistics or distribution operations.
  • Strong commercial understanding with the ability to balance customer service, operational performance, and cost efficiency
  • Experience managing change and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of transport compliance, Health & Safety and operational best practice.
  • Proven expertise in transport planning and route optimisation, supported by strong analytical and change management skills
  • The ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • A coaching and development-focused leadership style.
  • The flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving operational environment.
  • A passion for delivering exceptional service and putting customers at the heart of decision making.
