The Role:

The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for providing technical solution design and implementation guidance on network and cloud infrastructure technologies.

The role works closely with the Platform teams and wider architecture community to define infrastructure strategy and implement key technologies to deliver resilient and secure platform capabilities.

The Infrastructure Architect also works closely with business stakeholders, service and delivery teams to design, prioritise, and support infrastructure design changes.

Responsibilities:

Strategy, Governance & Planning

Establish or improve controls around infrastructure components to ensure they are cost-effective, secure, compliant, performant, scalable and supported.
Accountable for the technical and commercial viability of proposed infrastructure solutions
Responsible for defining and ensuring that the infrastructure elements of solution design comply with best practice throughout project design, delivery and into support.
Contribute to the architecture community at New Look through continual development of our artefacts, methodologies and processes, and identification and assessment of new and emerging technologies.
Establish and communicate a cost-effective and viable vision for infrastructure and manage its prioritised implementation through a multi-year roadmap.

Infrastructure Architecture

Maintain an accurate set of architectural assets including as-is views, roadmaps, best practices and standards across infrastructure platforms.
Actively support stakeholders including other architects, technical managers, engineers, testers, and business SMEs to assure the quality of delivered infrastructure solutions.
Provide technical leadership for the design of on-premises, interconnect, and cloud infrastructure.
Research, understand and provide briefings on infrastructure technology innovation to technology and business stakeholders.
Create and maintain strong relationships with external infrastructure service and supply organisations to establish best practice and technology-fit for the organisation.
Generate commercial and technical proposals for infrastructure solutions.

About You:

  • A degree in IT or related topic, or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Previous experience as Architect, Technical Analyst, Senior Engineer on large programmes using both Agile and Waterfall project methodologies.
  • In-depth experience of infrastructure design for on-premise, hybrid and multi-cloud solutions
  • Deep understanding of networking standards including IPSEC, GRE, HTTP/S, DNS, BGP
  • Experience designing and implementing SD-WAN (ideally Meraki) solutions
  • Understanding of virtualisation and containerisation technologies such as VMware, HCI, Kubernetes
  • Specific experience in Azure cloud infrastructure: Application Gateway/Front Door, Bastion, DNS, Firewall,  Express Route, VNets, Sentinel
  • Experience establishing and maintaining policies around Authentication, PKI infrastructure, Active Directory (On-premise and Entra ID), SAML, Conditional Access, RBAC, PIM.
  • Understanding of IaaC enabling technologies such as ARM or Terraform
  • Systems monitoring (Azure Monitoring / Log Analytics and New Relic)
  • Experience co-ordinating in-house and 3rd party infrastructure delivery and support teams, both on-site and offshore.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams designing and implementing required systems, solutions, and processes needed to manage cloud cost, monitoring, scalability, and redundancy.
  • Proficiency in methods and techniques for structured reviews, including reviews of key design decisions, non-functional requirements, technical documents, test plans, business cases and other key deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with business stakeholders to establish requirements, inspire others and champion solution ideas, and manage expectations in non-technical language.
